We all make the easy mistakes in carpet cleaning that ruin our chances of removing tough stains and often making them even worse. If you think you’re not using the right products, or spending money buying expensive  chemicals that aren’t working - or even if you’re wasting time on your hands and knees scrubbing stains that won’t budge, you need to read on or speak to our carpet cleaning Southend company.

You’re about to see where you’re going wrong, and how to get rid of those tough stains.

Here are the 10 top ways to get rid of the toughest carpet stains without having to leave your house…

Top Tip 1
Firstly and probably one of the most essential tips, act on those stains fast. Never leave the stain to work its way deep down into the fibres of your carpet. The longer you leave a stain,  it will become worse as stains allure more dirt once dried into your carpet.

Top Tip 2
Do not rub. Rubbing just pushes the stain down deep into the fibres, which is exactly what you should steer clear of. We all make this mistake, or have at least once before, however, remember – stains can be lifted by scraping, blotting or brushing but spreading dirt around is never going to help.

Top Tip 3
Work from the outside of a stain into the middle. Most people, in a state of panic will put a drenched cloth (or whatever cleaning tool they use ) down, slap bang in the centre of a spill or stain and scrub, applying too much pressure on it and not only rubbing the stain in, but also spreading it out. Always, always, always work from the outside inwards for better results.

Top Tip 4
Avoid using cleaning detergents as any residue left over will attract more dirt. There are various mixtures you can use at home, such as a touch of washing up liquid and water, which is subtle yet effective. Use vinegar (a powerful cleaning weapon, also used to clean mirrors) and water to remove stains left in fibres. Lastly, baking soda can also be used when a stain is difficult to remove and remember to rinse these mixtures with clean water.

Top Tip 5
You shouldn’t wet the carpet until spills have time to soak into fibres, as adding moisture to a fresh stain can help it to soak in further if you do not properly get rid of the stain. However, this is not a reason to neglect a stain. You must still act quickly, dried in stains are a difficult task to remove. So, although you should wet the stain, you mustn’t over wet them, too much moisture is never a good thing.

Top Tip 6
With moisture, you will find bad smells. You may not be aware of any odours that your carpets are creating but those visiting your home certainly will be. It may seem obvious, but on a warm day air out your carpet by opening windows, or using a fan. There are various effective ways of quickly drying specific wet areas of your carpet. Once a stain has been dealt with place a put of dry towels over the problem area, place something reasonably heavy on top to slightly weigh it down and leave overnight. Blot carpet again using dry towels and to lift moisture from your carpet. Or, simply dry using a hairdryer on a low setting.

Top Tip 7
Vacuuming is also very important and it is a good idea to vacuum the day after you have removed a stain. Vacuuming not only sucks up any left over dirt and also stops dirt from burying its way deep into the fibres of your carpet.

Top Tip 8
Test cleaning methods on an area that will not be seen, like under the sofa, before using them on a stain.

Top Tip 9
Another essential point for any of you who own wool carpet is simply to be extra careful. Your carpet isn’t as strong as other carpets as wool is natural and delicate, it needs to be taken care of as it is easily damaged.

Top Tip 10
And last but not least, just because you now have knowledge on how to effectively remove a stain, doesn’t mean you must forget about the idea of calling in some extra help when it’s needed. Professional carpet cleaning is definitely something that should be remembered as it is an extremely important way of caring for your carpet. Not only because it is recommended that carpets must be deeply cleaned every year, but also because I’m sure you’d rather take the best care of your carpet, making it last longer than to have to eventually rip out your carpet and fork out more cash to have more fitted.
