Long ago, before there were building inspectors or home mortgages, our forefathers went out in to the wilderness, and put up a log cabin in one day and didn’t even have take into consideration   building a new home  on the budget. That cabin however, had no electrical wires, and no plumbing. There was no HVAC or ductwork. There were no kitchen area cabinets or appliances, only a fireplace that is not terribly efficient. There wasn’t a wireless internet connection either.

In recent decades,   home building , like everything else had become more costly, more standardized, and much more governed. The thriving economy with the 1990s yielded a number of legal, social, and economic barriers to help creative housing solutions. There was a type of snobbery towards anything different or unusual, and homes became frighteningly similar, especially budget homes. Thankfully, in recent years, these rules, which often had nothing regarding quality construction, are being gradually lifted with the return to green ideas. The rough economy has reduced snobbery and the energy crisis has driven more individuals to return to green ideas.

While you must be cautious when  building a home , because zoning, building inspectors and house loan officers do all survive, if you are complete, and willing to fight, cajole and persuade you might possibly save over half the expense of your home. There are a handful of loopholes in codes, but development bylaws and restrictions can be quite tough. It may make more sense to get a rural lot and put in well and septic than to deal with a subdivision while developing a truly green house.
